What Is PBIS?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive systems approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture and needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. As a Response to Intervention model, PBIS applies a three-tiered system of support, and a problem-solving process to enhance the capacity of schools to effectively educate all students.
PBIS at Garden Hills
Currently Garden Hills is focusing on establishing a solid Tier 1 system of interventions. Tier 1 interventions are school wide and effect every student in all settings. It helps to prevent negative behavior by setting expectations each of the different school environments. It teaches school wide procedures such as how to walk in the hallway and proactively manages behavior by rewarding students who follow the rules.
Garden Hills will have monthly formal success ceremonies where students and staff are recognized for their positive contributions. The awards for students will include:
The Nelson Mandela Award- Given to students who demonstrate confidence in doing the right thing, in spite of challenges and adversity. These students make positive choices no matter what others may be doing.
The Mahatma Ghandi Award- Given to students who demonstrate empathy to other students. These students try to understand other perspectives and stand up against injustice towards others.
The Martin Luther King Award- Given to students who are respectful, even when they disagree with something. These students use their brains to solve problems, instead of their bodies.
Future Teacher Award- Given to students who use what they know to help younger students learn
Malleable Intelligence Award- Given to students who consistently demonstrate hard work and practice to grow their brains

- ALL parents/adults must sign in at the office and wear a visitor badge while in the building. If you do not see an adult with a badge, please politely redirect them to the office to get one.
